A love letter to my yoga community

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

Dear yogis, athletes, teachers, family, friends and friends of friends who were dragged along to my classes,

You are the reason I teach

I want to thank each and every one of you for your presence in my classes, for watching my YouTube channel, for liking that Instagram post, and for supporting me.

I know there have been days where you really wished I’d not added that extra chair pose. I know there have been more days than we can count where the speakers ‘didn’t play ball’ – then I invested in my own and now carry it with me everywhere – I know there have been days when you didn’t want to get on your mat but you did. So, I wanted to take the time to thank you, to thank all of you.

Teaching yoga to all of you is a blessing. Yoga is my passion and seeing it become yours (or you pretending it hasn’t become yours in the case of those of you being dragged along) is a pleasure. You are my community and the growth that you all show is incredible. When I see you put in that extra vinyasa or lie more still in savasana, my heart sings. So right here, right now, I wanted to sing your praises.

From the memories of laughter in lost balancing poses, to the memories of stillness in child’s pose. We practice together in mind every time.

I would like to thank you all wherever you are from. I am lucky enough that I have been able to teach people from all over the world, so you may be far away physically right now, but know that every time I teach, and every time I step onto my mat to practise you are all with me. From the memories of laughter in lost balancing poses, to the memories of stillness in child’s pose. We practice together in mind every time.

To my fellow yoga teachers and friends, to my own teachers, thank you for your support and teachings. I have learnt from all of you and so thankyou for shaping the way I teach and supporting me on my yoga journey. We are all students of yoga and when I come to your classes I am reminded of this more than ever. Finally, thank you for putting up with terrible ability to discern left from right (it has definitely improved over the years), but most importantly, thankyou for being a part of my yoga community.

Namaste, Naomi
